Ingredients
Gather and measure the ingredients before you begin.
- 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Beat butter and both sugars until creamy, about 2 minutes.
- Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth.
- Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt separately. Add to butter mixture and mix just until combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips. Scoop rounded tablespoons onto the sheet, leaving 2 inches between cookies.
- Bake 9–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden and centers look soft.
- Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
Tips for the best results
- Chill dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
- Measure flour by weight or spoon and level it in the cup.
- Remove cookies while centers look slightly underdone; they set as they cool.
Storage and serving
For best flavor and texture, serve as recommended above. Refrigerate perishable leftovers promptly in a clean, covered container and generally use cooked leftovers within 3–4 days. Reheat cooked dishes thoroughly. Salads and baked goods may require different storage based on their ingredients.
Recipe notes
Cooking times vary with equipment, ingredient size, and kitchen conditions. Adjust seasoning to taste and follow reliable food-safety guidance for meat, eggs, and other perishable ingredients.
